Add another monitor to laptop: resolution problem!

Hi!
I have a laptop ACER - Aspire 5000. I have one unused LCD monitor! When I plug-it in the laptop, everything works great, except my laptop's resolution is 1280x800. But my old monitor can't handle such a resolution.. Is it posible to output different resolution to it?

I have another idea for what to use this monitor! Can I just output dmesg to it?? I really have no idea how to do this.. Any suggestions please? Thank you!

Of course it is! It is specified in the metamodes option (device section), usually you specify the list of modes you want for each monitor, e.g. for 1200x800 on the lcd and 1024x768 externally, you would do "1280x800,1024x768". However, check the man page for the driver (if you have one) as the syntax may be different or you might need to specify other options too (never used an sis card, so I'm not sure).
