Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Adaptec Ultra160

I have the Adaptec 29160N SCSI adapter. Does anyone have this thing running at a full 160? I had to disable the autowide negotiation in the card's bios to get my two harddrives to work in linux. If anyone out there does have their card cranked up to a transfer rate of 160, please please please tell me how you did it. I hate the fact that my two Seagate Cheetahs are limited to 40mb/sec. It's kinda a waste to have my one IDE drive transferring data at the same rate as my SCSI drives.

I do -- I have like 48 Seagate's on several 29160's and they all go at 160. I have the card's bios on, and nothing special set, and they negotiate at 160.

In my experience, 99% of all SCSI problems are termination problems. Make sure your termination is right, and that you have the right cables.

well, i finally figured it out. I was playing around with the inside of my computer and i happen to unplug the LVD ribon cable. I also just happened to look at the inside of the plug and discovered that three of the pins were bent out of shape. i just used anothe plug on the cable and everything worked fine. i now have 160 sync and everything is grand. thanks
