I'm looking to add firewire ports to several linux boxes and was wondering if anyone knew how well the Adaptec DuoConnect Firewire/USB 2 card works under linux.

Also, has anyone successfully used firewire on a much older PC? One of the boxes that I would like to be able to attach firewire hard drives to is a Pentium 75 with 48MB of ram and I'm worried that the machine will be unable to support a firewire hard drive. Is this a valid concern or has anyone else had luck using firewire devices on such an old machine?

Dual chip cards are always a little iffy, but who knows...

The P75 probably doesn't have a decent enough PCI subsystem to hack it, its probably pre-2.0 compliant let alone the 2.1 that is going to be a minimum for a card that nice. Its reported in dmesg though, so just check what the PCI BIOS reports.
