Question AD1888 Sound card issues.

Hi All,
I have recently installed slackware 11 and I am having probelms with trying to get my sound card to work. I am using the 2.4.33.3 kernel. My soundcard chip is an AD 1888 it is onboard my mobo is an ASUS k8v-mx-uaykz.

I did the following (in exactly this order) to setup alsa:

1. I unpacked the driver in the usr/src/alsa folder

2. cd alsa-driver-xxx

3. ./configure --with-cards=via82xx --with-sequencer=yes;make;make install

4. I unpacked the library into the same alsa folder.

5. cd alsa-lib-xxx

6. ./configure;make;make install

7. I then unpacked the utilities into the alsa folder.

8. cd alsa-utils-xxx

9. ./configure;make;make install

10. modprobe snd-via82xx;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss

11. "alsamixer" into the console and unmuted everything. As well as typed "amixer set PCM unmute".

12. I also ran alsaconf in the CLI. But it didn't help.

13. I typed lspci and it outputed my soundcard -> "00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 60)
"
EDIT:

14. I just typed dmesg into the console. And got the following friendly output:
ALSA ../alsa-kernel/pci/via82xx.c:581: codec_read: codec 0 is not valid [0xfe0000]
ALSA ../alsa-kernel/pci/via82xx.c:581: codec_read: codec 0 is not valid [0xfe0000]
ALSA ../alsa-kernel/pci/via82xx.c:581: codec_read: codec 0 is not valid [0xfe0000]
ALSA ../alsa-kernel/pci/via82xx.c:581: codec_read: codec 0 is not valid [0xfe0000]

I don't know what this means... and I still have no sound!!!

Does anyone have any idea about what else I should do? Or if I am doing anything wrong? Or what I can do next? Any help would be much appreciated!

Note: I took the steps from the following webpage -> http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...module=via82xx

Im pretty certain I have tried loading the right module.

Thanks,
-Tiepo
