Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

ACPI Thermal Zone vs lmsensors!?!?

Hello all. I'm confused with sensor outputs, specifically what the difference is between the sensor data reported by acpi thermal zones and say that reported by lmsensors. I understand that lmsensors gets it's information from hardware monitoring sensor chips however I have no clue where acpi gets its info from or which would be more accurate if either. I've checked the forums and the acpi website which is where I found the specification for ACPI 2.0 however I must admit it's a bit over my head. (http://www.acpi.info/DOWNLOADS/ACPIspec-2-0c.pdf) Many thanks to anyone that can clear this up for me.

ACPI Thermal Zones are (I think) just a hardware-independent way to report temp information ie that way you don't have to have a driver for the sensor chip on the mainboard, your OS just needs to be able to talk ACPI to the BIOS, which will then query the sensor chip and relay the information.
Also means you can tie power/heat management in at the BIOS level
