ACPI PCC probe failed unknown maxwell

I bought an Nvidia GTX 960 graphics card and then tried to install the latest version of elementary x64. Whether I try the live cd or to install I get the same error. I used the 'nomodeset' and the 'ACPI=off' options under the F6 menu to no avail. Sometimes it only display "ACPI PCC probe failed" and other times I get a slightly more descriptive, but none the less unhelpful, further error messages.

I am pretty sure the issue is that the nouveau graphics driver that comes in the installation disk doesn't recognize my card. I am pretty stuck at this point. How can I get an installation CD to ignore my graphics, or to install in a graphic - less mode? Any ideas? Thanks you.

Boot to vesa mode maybe.
Remove the driver from alt terminal maybe. Then restart display.
If you can access the alt terminals then you may be able to start up an older install program.

Might have a failsafe option someplace.

Install to a different system, fix video issues and move back.

Not sure the acpi is an issue or not.
