acpi kills sound

I get sound when I boot with acpi=off and not with acpi=on. I test with
Code:
aplay test.wav
I suspect that acpi is somehow corrupting or mis-handling the IRQs. I have tried numerous kernel args to try to rectify the problem but to no avail. I know that others have the same symptom which is fixed by acpi=off, so I am not alone. I have the same problem with FC5 and SUSE 10.1 I am majorly stuck as to how to proceed. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

You mention that you tried numerous args. Did you happen to try acpi=noirq? That one fixed my irq handling problem.
