On the first menu page press "tab" and add "acpi=off" as an option (with a space before it).
It works for me with Slackware Live.

it's
Code:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="noapic quiet splash"
or
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="apic=off quiet splash"
no under scores you're just confusing your system doing that. Hench a freeze up.

the did you try the other one?
tab then just write acpi=off or hit e on the grub listings and move your cursor to where that is at in your line backspace the other one out of the line if it is there, then add in the acpi=off hit ctrl+x and see if it boots.
