I've just bought an Acer 5750G (specs in spanish) with Windows 7 and I'd like to install Debian Squeeze (which I've been using in my desktop computer for a long time).
My first problem (I think that I'll find further problems, for example with NVidia graphics) is that I can't connect through wireless.
The name in lspci is "Broadcom 4358", and I tried installing b43 and broadcom-wl but didn't work. Probably I failed on doing something, but I don't think so.
In this list, 14e4:4358 is marked as "not tested" with b43 and "alternative" wl. I tried both and none of them worked. I see the other lists and in any of them is shown 4358. So, is there any solution possible? Or I'll have to wait for a new driver?
I deleted everything from broadcom-wl, and reinstalled b43 (with help of debian wiki). I revised blacklist (/etc/modprobe.d) for b43 and there was nothing. I typed iwconfig and no wireless extensions. I typed modprobe b43 and iwconfig again, no wireless extensions. So, I typed dmesg and this is the result:
With "regulatory domain", I don't understant what is saying, but mine is not US, is ES (Spain). Apart from this, it shows that the driver is loaded, but I can't see anywhere my chipset
EDIT: Probably is necessary to say that I'm in a debian amd64, because I have an Intel Core i5 64 bits
Yes, the user is in the netdev group, and I am using "Debian by default" . So I think is gnome and I don't know which network manager I'm using.
I've tried a Live CD of Xubuntu (I hate the new design of Ubuntu) and it automatically asks for enable a non-free driver (which name is not in Debian packages), so I'll probably install Xubuntu, and install Debian whenever I buy a new laptop (then, I'll revise all the components and its compatibility with Debian)
