ac97 vs. audigy

My computer has an onboard sound chip, and a creative audigy sound card, I of course use the audigy but recently I installed linux to this computer and it recognized only the onboard chip. I can't install drivers or anything because linux doesn't recognize its existence. Any solutions except destroying the onboard sound chip with a screwdriver?

Most BIOSes have an option to disable the onboard sound. Also, have you loaded the emu10k drivers? The two soundcards should be recognized separately, as they use different drivers.
