AC'97 Sound Problem Mandrake 9.1

All right, I have a VIA Chipset with the built in AC'97 sound. It's on an Athlon 2200... and the snd-via82xxx driver in effect.

Here's the weird thing, I can play MP3s and WAV files in XMMS just fine. I can play Audio CDs clear as day. But, if any application that tries to ring or play a sound... it just plays the sound all distorted over and over and over... and then X will hang, plus games don't have sound playing correctly.

In XMMS this option is what I have under the OSSlib:

Default (Avance Logic ALC200/200P) rev 0

and... in /etc/modules.conf I have....

Thanks.

I also have sound problems, but I am unable to hear anything. I have checked the mixer volume and the etc/modules.conf. The only thing I don't have is the options snd etc etc. Did you have to put that in or was it automatic. I am able to hear sound in Red Hat 9 and using the SUSE evaluation disc. I am at a loss right now and am reading all the posts trying to get ideas. Maybe someone with Via knowledge can help us? Thanks

I now have sound (after a fashion....mozilla won't for example play a note when mail arrives). By going to control panel, sound, test sound, I can hear the KDE open theme. After looking at my etc/modules.conf in RedHat, I changed the drivers to via82cxxx audio and was able to at least get some sound. Also when I click on a sound file (wav, etc) it now plays. I did a restart after the driver change. HTH
