About PCIe 4.0 graphic card to work on PCIe 3.0 mobo
Hi all,
Just purchased a new GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3050 WINDFORCE OC8GB GDDR6 display card, PCIe 4.0. It can't work on PCIe 3.0 motherboard. I tested it, no signal output on both DP and HDMI ports
Motherboard:
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.
PRIME X570-P
Version: Rev X.0x
Is there anyway to make it works on PCIe 3.0 motherboard? Please advise.
Thanks in advance.
Regards

I very much doubt if that's your problem. PCIE steps down nicely so the board should work at pcie-3.0 speeds. Consider other possibilities. Check drivers, logs, etc.

Hi, I have just replaced my graphics, the card is pcie4, but the mobo is pcie3.
It works. Backward compatabillity.
I look forward to that little boost when I get some new foundations for my system.

Which CPU is in use?
Does graphics work before switching to the GeForce RTX 3050?
Which power supply is in use? Can it deliver required power for entire system?
Are all required connections done? The GeForce RTX 3050 requires additional power connection normally done with a 8-pin power connector.
Looking at this, the "Asus PRIME X570-P" comes with PCIe 4.0 capability. If you only have PCIe 3.0 at first PCIe x16 slot you have chosen a wrong CPU, e.g. a model with an IGP, to get high graphics performance.
If you are running a CPU with an IGP temporarily connect a monitor to it. If you get an output open UEFI and completely disable IGP. Shut down, reconnect monitor to graphics card and restart.

Hi,
Thanks for your advice.
Performed following test;
Install the 4K MSI PCIe 3.0 display card of my spare PC to the daily working PC
MSI graphic card V292 R1
Model: MS V385
Connect to DP port
It works without problem
-> booting to grup menu -> starting Ubuntu 22.04 desktop login page finally
lspci | grep VGA
Code:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation TU116 [GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER] (rev a1)
Please help to find out and fix the problem of the new Gigabyte Geforce RTX 3050 PCIe 4.0 display card
Thanks in advance
Regards

Hi,
Further to my posting above this posting.
I have tested the new Gigabyte Geforce RTX 3050 PCIe 4.0 display card in my spare PC, still the same problem.
PC boots to a dark screen finally after starting grup menu
PC can boot to BIOS and I can make changes.

Hi all,
I found out the cause of problem, PCIe 4.0 graphic card unable to work on PCIe 3.0 slot of motherboard. It works without problem !!!
My Ubuntu 22.04 desktop is running on a PCIe Nvme 3.0 SSD. This is the cause making PCIe 4.0 graphic card unable to work.
Following OS are also running on this PC.
1) Windows 10 on STAT6 SSD
2) another Ubuntu 22.04 desktop on SATA6 SSD
I just checked them. PCIe 4.0 graphic card works on both of them without problem. I'm now replying this thread on 2) above.
Is there any way to solve the problem, PCIe 4.0 graphic card unable to work on PCIe Nvme 3.0 SSD ?
I won't inject further effort on my spare PC because I won't install PCIe 4.0 graphic card on it.
Regards

Apart from the obvious of installing a pcie-4.0 nvme, none of us could tell you without some detailed designer knowledge. PCIE buses downgrade nicely but whether they run different lanes at different speeds is a very different matter. I suspect not, as they are too near cpu frequency.

My final solution.
1)
Move the 4K PCIe 3.0 graphic card from my spare PC to my daily working PC
2)
Install the 4K PCIe 4.0 graphic card on my spare PC (there is no PCIe MVNe SSD)
Now my problem solved.

Is this your thread??? Did you create a second user ID (if so, that's frowned upon) and why??? You've been a member here for *TWENTY YEARS* at this point...and you've marked threads of your own as SOLVED before:
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...st-4175598686/
...so you quite obviously know how to do it. Try looking under "Thread Tools". Reported.

Yes...very strange since: - You created a second user (apparently)
- You have been a member here *TWENTY YEARS*
- You have closed several of your own threads in the past
- You don't seem to understand that unless you sign in with your other smsuil name, you won't be able to close the thread that user ID started
::EDIT::
You apparently created that other user ID just to go back and give reputation/thanks to your own posts.
