Question About installing AMD graphic driver

I've installed an AMD R9 380 display card on a hypervisor host with OS RHEL 8.7.

Before installing the driver, "lspci" showed that the kernel driver in use was "amdgpu". However, it's still showing "amdgpu" after the driver is installed.

Nvidia, on the other hand, the default kernel driver that comes with distros is "nouveau". It will change to "nvidia" if the correct driver is installed and in use.

I heard that "radeon" is only for old display cards; "amdgpu-pro" is deprecated. So what is the new name for installed AMD display drivers? It's quite confusing if both the distros and proprietary drivers show the same name.

AMD's own employees are among those who provide both FOSS and proprietary. I'm sure if amdgpu is used by the proprietary versions, the name was their choice.

this says arch linux your card "working". arch has great articles. i tend to pick theirs first in such situations.

did you learn to google yet? doesn't matter, it's a broken search engine "which returns what it wants to not what a real search engine like Altavista would" (it's syntax doesn't support real searches, awful)
