Abit NFS-S and Athlon XP 2800 problimatic in linux?


I am just wondering if I am going to have a hard time getting everything to work with a new motherboard and CPU I would like to buy they are a
SOCKET A ABIT NF7-S (I think it has an Nforce2 MCP2 T) chipset motherboard and Athlon XP 2800 CPU

Any opinions??

Don't know about the motherboard, but the CPU should be fine. I have two Athlon XPs and both work great.

It should work ok. Like all the nforce2 boards posts in this forum they all work fine. Make sure you go to Nvidia's site and download the drivers for your chipset. You will have some trouble setting up an ATI video card with your board if you get one.

Thanks for your replies!

Hey Electro why will I have problems with a Radeon card with this board?? I currently have a Radoeon 9100... its working fine now. When I put it into the new board am I going to have problems??

Only if you did not download the Nvidia drivers for your chipset after the installation. You may have trouble with the ATI card during installation.

Thanks alot. I will make sure I download these drivers from NVIDA (I am off to buy the board monday)
Kind of funny isnt it buying a board with and Nvida chipset and having a ATI graphics card lol.

I have NF7-Sv2.0+Radeon9500pro and everything works great on kenel 2.4.23... I had some troubles with 2.6.0 and ATI 3.7.0 drivers...

Hmmm thanks for that Grung ... I will keep that in mind when I install kernal 2.6.0 ... Still on 2.4.22 (although heard about some sort of a security problem)

There is more one thing, I had not any problems when I was using 3.2.8 ATI drivers and Kernel 2.6.0, so I think that everything will be fixed soon

No worries I will try using the 3.2.8 ATI drivers then when I install 2.6.0
