Well the 5.1 support is optional in that board. I am also using an A7N8X Deluxe, and there is no 5.1 on mine. It's my understanding that the 'Soundstorm" setup is optional, and is probably included as an add on card since there is no jacks for anything other than 2.1's on the back of my mobo. If you only have 1 'speaker out' port on yours, then you also do not have the Soundstorm 5.1 setup they talk of. It's almost a rip off if you ask me. When I bought my mobo it was advertised everywhere as including Dolby Digital 5.1 and no where did I see it as 'optional'. I only realized that after installing the board. Not that big of a deal though since I would rather have the sound quality of the Audigy, but it's the principle of the thing.

Don't get me wrong, the sound quality on this mobo is excellent, and probably unrivaled by any other on board sound. It's just not the same as having a standalone DSP is all. I was also never able to get the nforce to allow more than one app to use the DSP at once. i.e. if I was playing tunes with XMMS, I would not hear any sound from anything else. Very irritating. My research told me that it is nvidia's fault, and short of nvidia releasing better drivers I was basically screwed on that issue. I love this board, but I don't use the onboard sound Everything else works perfectly under Linux.

You could check out the linux or asus subforum on www.nforcershq.com a site dedicated purely to nforce motherboards, they might be able to offer more info
