Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question A sound question for the unsound?

I just installed Slackwar 9.0 and I discovered I do not have any sound. My machine is an IBM workstation that has Crystal Wave (CS4236/37/38) on the motherboard.

I checked the rc.modules config file in /etc//dev/rc.d/ directory and do not find a listing for the version of Crystal Wave on my machine or anything related to onboard sound, everything in the mod file appears to relate to PCI cards.

I have an old SoundBlaster 32 AWE card in a machine I use for spare parts. My question is if I decide to plug the SoundBlaster card into a PCI slot will I have to trun off the onboard sound by manipulating jumpers on the motherboard? Or if I pulg in th card will that over ride the on board sound without making changes other than installing th drivers, which I have on a floppy?

Thanks!

You should be able to run 2 sound cards no problem. I have an onboard AC'97 and a pci audigy 2, both run in windows simultaneously, and I use my on board in my mandrake. (No luck on the audigy 2 yet) =-( You can disable, although not neccesary.
