80GB Sata Not Detected

i m trying to install redhat 9 on my p4 with 80GB Sata Hard Drive...
but redhat 9 doesnt detect the sata hardrive...i tried to install fedora core 4 but it also didnt detect my hard drive. though the BIOS of the board detects and shows the hard disk.

this is likely due to the fact that the kernel available on the cd-installer(s) you are using does not support the sata chipset that you are using.

silicon image chipsets are widely supported by linux kernels, but other chipsets are often 'hit or miss'.

to confirm that this is the issue, simply find out what chipset your sata controller is, and then compare that to kernel support documentation.

IF this is confirmed to be the issue, then you can solve the problem by finding the linux driver for your sata chipset, copying it to a floppy 3.5" disk, and then loading it at boot time (although i am not sure what the procedure is for doing that - so hopefully someone else will chime in).
