Question 802.11g PCI Card support under Linux

Hey everyone,

I am building a new Linux box and would like to take advantage of my home WLAN (and not have to run a lot of Ethernet cable), currently going through an 802.11g D-Link wireless router. After doing some quick web research, it looks like there is not a whole lot of support for 802.11g under Linux (yet). I plan on running Red Hat 9, but I have run Mandrake and a few other flavors before so would consider it if necessary. As far as I can tell, the only 802.11g drivers are supplied here:

Linux Drivers for the 802.11g Prism Chipset: ruslug.rutgers.edu/~mcgrof/802.11g/

From the supported card list, it looks like the SMC EZ Connect G Wireless PCI Card <smc.com/index.cfm?sec=Products&pg=Product-Details&prod=291&site=c> is the only PCI card that has been verified as working. My question is, does anyone have experience with these drivers, or even more paticularly, this card? I am considering buying it but would like to hear some about before hand.

Thanks!

Sorry I couldn't linkify the URLs above, but this is my first post and I can't embed URLs yet!

Shockmaster,

I see that there have been no response to your post over the last six plus months, and I also notice that you have only posted once since your first post. Nevertheless I am curious how your experience with running 802.11g cards has been over the last 6 months (if you decided to go forward on this path).

Did it work for you out of the box? How has your reliability been? Have you updated your drivers since the original install, if so has it improved your overall results?
