802.11b/g wireless nic with fedora core 3 question--which is easiest to get working?
 

Hello. I am looking to find a quick and easy-to-install and use 802.11b or 802.11g wireless nic. has anyone installed one that was a "piece of cake"...one that worked with fedora core 3 with minimal customizing, etc. it is for my boss and money is no object--well, within reason. we just don't want to dig around forever trying different ones. if anyone has installed a wireless nic with fedora core 3 and had no issues and a seamless setup, etc. i would love to know the make/model. thanks in advance. and if you have any tips for me about the install and configuration that would be much appreciated, as this will be my first wireless card installation on linux.

I just installed mine on a Compaq Presario laptop. I took me about 3 days to figure out. But once you know what you need its a piece of cake
What kind of nic do you have ? what kernel are you running? These are question you need to answer before starting.

i have an orinoco nic. 2.6.11-1.14_FC3 is the kernel. thanks dude. i hear ya. i was hoping i wouldn't have to search around forever. if you could give me some tips that would be awesome. i am going to be away for the weekend. but i will look back here. if you have any tips please share. i also can purchase another nic if need be. if you have a particular model and have the steps for it to install, please let me know the make/model and i will get it asap. thanks again.

Nic card using Fedora
 

I replied to another participant on the easiest wireless nic card that is linux compatible. I used a Cisco aironet 350 card on a gateway model 3018 using Fedora core 1. The card was recognized immediately during installation and acquired an ip address upon logon to the new installation. However, to use the aironet acu utility to configure WEP keys, etc. you will need to get the acu utilities from cisco's website. Cisco offers detailed documentation on the install of the acu wireless configuration utility. This card worked with three other laptop manufacturers, including sony, dell and hp.
