Nope, there is currently no UltraSparc port of Fedora Core. Right now you're looking at... Gentoo, SuSe (although its old... I think they may have done a Sparc port in the 8s somewhere), and Debian. Also, all three of the BSDs have an Ultra port.

The only major distros that currently run on sparc are AFAIK SuSE and Debian. I think Red Hat used to be available for sparc, but not fedora... fedora 64 bit is for x86_64, meaning intel and AMD.

I'd recommend Debian on account of it's free and very stable.

For more info go to http://www.linux.org/dist/list.html and select sparc under architecture.

Good luck,

Stephen

Oh yeah, what he said, gentoo as well. Gentoo is great! You can customize the crap out of it, but that's a lot of work. If you're up to it, it's worth the experience (and the time!). It'll let you build everything from the ground up. This is definitely not for you though if you don't like editing config files by hand.

If you want it to just work, I would recommend Debian, though I have heard SuSE is good too. never have used it though so I cannot vouch for it.

Cheers,

Stephen

I'd go debian. It's supported and not as an afterthought. You should be fine with testing. Nice machine

I went with Debian, and So Far so good, everything seems to be working except for video, any Idea if Debian supports the Tech-source Raptor GFX video card that is in this ULTRA Sparc? or know where i can find a driver that will work? Ive been searching the net and there's not much info about these systems.

Thanks again.

Its X really that's at question. How does this go?

X -configure

Also, you can always take a look at the supported card list at XFree86.org, just check your version by:

head /var/log/XFree86.0.log

My Guess is 4.3.0, but Debian sometimes is even more back.

Finegan
