64 bit processor, high mem?

All,

This is an easy question...I really just need verification. 64bit processors do not have a highmem issue correct? I know that 32bit processors can only see up to 4Gb of memory without the highmem option in the kernel however 64bit processors have no highmem issues right? Thanks.

Correct :)

Exactly there is not the memory mapping issue that is present with a 32bit install but this means you have to install a 64bit distribution not the 32bit flavour if you go with 32bit then you still have the same limitation even if you have a 64bit processor in the machine because it is not using 64bit code.

Edit: I should also mention that sometimes like with my board you need to enable the 64bit memory mode in the BIOS to have it work correctly and see the whole 4gb or higher amounts.

Thanks kromberg and Happy Tux. The distro is a 64 bit distro. I was 99% sure there wasn't a highmem issue and you both confirmed it. Thanks.

PS - I will check the BIOS. Thanks for the tip.
