I have a 5610 serial modem it dials up in wvdial then diconnects I have tried pppconfig and then pon command. and gnome-ppp gui and always get the same results. they are:

I have tried everything on the net and still nothing I am real new to Linux and love it I am learning: I bought this modem just to get rid of Micro$oft XP. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP

does this modem work on windows or another computer ???

this modem works on windows and will connect using the pppconfig with chap handshaking but when trying to use ppp-gnome it won't connect, my wife don't understand how to use yerminal well yet and would like to solve the problem with Gnome-ppp I like the GUI interface

well i'm no overly familar with dial up internet on linux but maybe you should try updating/or re installing the ppp-gnome . thats all i could think of and also on anthor note you might want to try uisng the gui kde its alot like windows you wife may find that easier to use

I doubt if there's anything wrong with the modem, its your configuration of wvdial. I can't tell you exactly where the problem is except one of the options isn't right. See if there is not a "Stupid" mode to check somewhere in the wvdial setup and if so change that setting. Don't give up there's something you're missing.
