5 buttom mouse....how do i make this work?

ok, i dont think this should be a hard one ( i could be wrong). I have a 5 button mouse. I basically use the other 2 buttons for forward and backward in internet browsers...its REALLY helpful.

How do i go about making linux see the other 2 buttons?

Also i have one of those keyboards with the multimedia controls up above...21 extra keys...for adjusting volume, track, stop play forward pause...etc....and then "My computer" calculator...power down...sleep... Any way to program those?

Concerning the mouse, have you seen the LQ.org forum search feature?

Just click on search (it's the fifth word on the uppermost blue line) and type in something like

five button mouse

You will get quite a few hits - the one you probably should read (and the one that I solved my five button mouse problem) is the one entitled:

5 button wheel mouse (tried all forums)

The solution is about half way down the first page!

Concerning the keyboard - well, try searching, if you don't get anything, I'm sure someone will help, good luck!

See if that helps:

[edit:]For buttons that are not used by X applications (buttons 6 and up), you may be able to make use of them using imwheel, or some other tool that transforms button clicks into commands and/or key-stokes.

Yves.
