5.1 sound system and linux ?

I would like to know if it is possible to have the 5.1 system working on linux.

I have 2 sound cards :
Onboard VIA 8233
Sound Blaster Live! Digital Surround

I am using Suse Linux 8.1 and the sound cards are well detected. The only problem is that we I listen to my music, I have a 2.1 sound system. I don't managed to find where I can change the settings.

Its probably because music is 2.1, at least most music? And your probably used to hearing it play in 5.1 because the card was faking it. Play something 3d and see if its in 5.1
