3d accelerator not working

i cant get my 3d accelerator working. i am using mandrake 9.0 on a toshiba satellite 1805 s274 laptop. it has a Trident Blade XP 3D card with 16 MB video ram.

whenever i do a game (not in wine) like quake 3, or even tux racer, the game is slow jumpy, i cant even move the mouse pointer to exit the game. tux racer should be able to work, but its as if im running them on a 486 computer with 66 mhz. help.

The problem currently with Trident cards is that the company is cagey about releasing information to the XFree86 project, and therefore support for these cards is choppy at best. I never got X to run right on my Presario 1200 with a Cyberblade, and I never really get a good display out of regular old 8Mb TGUIs, I save them for servers that aren't even going to be running X. According to the status page over at the XFree site, there was support added for 2d under 4.2.1 I don't know if any distro has released under 4.2.1 yet, but a binary install is pretty easy if you want to give it a shot.

Luck,

According to the Distro Watch people, currently Mandrake is the only mainstream, non source based distro that ships with X4.2.1
