3D acceleration with a sis661/741. It is possible?

Hi all,
I recently installed Kubuntu in a AMD Athlom 3000+, 512MB RAM with a sis661/741 graphic card. All the information that I found of how to get 3D acceleration is either confusing or states that it is not possible to do that in Linux at least, for the enduser.
Somebody got the 3D acceleration working with this card? If yes, how?
If it not possible to have the 3D acceleration working, makes some difference to install the sis drivers from( 1) or set the graphic card as sis Real256E and the controler as sis instead of generic Vesa?

Thanks,

Julian

I found this: http://www.winischhofer.eu/linuxsispart3.shtml,

which has this to say:

4. Hardware accelerated 3D (DRI/OpenGL)
Q: Tuxracer is terribly slow on my SiS 315/550/650/651/330/661/741/760/761/340/XGI Vx
A: DRI and hardware accelerated OpenGL/3D is not supported on these chipsets.

I see, so it does not make sense to set the sis controler in Xorg instead the generic Vesa one.
