loading sk98lin in knoppix 3.3

I have the asus A7V600 motherboard and am running knoppix 3.3 from hd.
I was unable to get the 3c2000 drivers from either asus or 3com (same), aka, to work completely. I also experienced the google and IM problem. I installed the install-624.tar.bz2 sk98lin driver from
and it works great. Several of the posts mentioned that the driver can be auto loaded by modifying the /etc/modules.conf file. I tried this using the update-modules function and it does not load the driver. I continue to load the driver manually for now, but I was wondering if someone could walk me through the auto load on knoppix 3.3

I also experienced the google and IM problem. I installed the install-624.tar.bz2 sk98lin driver from
and it works great. It appears that the asus/3com driver is a botched version of the sk98lin driver. Now if I could just figure out how to get it to autoload without using the knoppix load network driver gui/interface tool.

Thumbs down More questions related

I've readed all this thread and I'm experiencing the same problems but with one more variable. My motherboard, Asus P4P800 that has installed an 3c2000 NIC internally, has also installed a FastTrack 100 TX2 ATA-RAID controller.

With Promise drivers had been impossible to mount RedHat9.

Looking at modules.cgz I can see that RedHat8 kernel is inside. Then I tried to install and great, install process finishes fine.

Next step was to compile 3c2000 driver and it seems that all was going fine.

Finally I would to install webmin 1.141 (it was installed without problems) but from another PC it was impossible to open the initial window; the login process is successful because a log record is registered in log file.

Then I tried to establish and SSH session and fails again. The same from another PC. Finally I mounted telnet server and, once server was started from xinetd, I can't connect to it again.

But (surprise) I can do ftp transactions without problems or I can run samba-SWAT fine.

I'm sorry but I'm working on this system more 1 week ago and I'm driving fool.

How can I mount RH9? How can I avoid all this problems?

Please help!!!

If anyone requires more information this system has a CD drive as a secondary master and 2 ATA drives (both of them masters on both FastTrack channels) running in mirror.
