Someone else also asked for the makefile, is there anyone here that has the makefile that was at http://www.boylesoftware.com/~lev/Makefile
It's not there anymore and I would really like to have this makefile so I can compile the driver again.
After reading through this post.... I must say I had the same problem.
I recently built a server using the P4P800 DLX board with the 3C940/3C2000 gigabit Lan and RedHat 9....
I can browse the net with it, I'm hosting websites with it.
The only problem is, if I'm on my workstation I can't do http requests, can't SSH.... it just doens't respond. If I move 3 feet away from my desk to my bosses desk, his computer has absolutely no problem.
I've noticed this same behavior on my network, some computers can and some can't connect to that servers services.
I checked and re-checked my network to make sure all way right along with a friend... and it's all perfect.
So is the conclusion that the sk98 patch is the solution?

Hi Jan! At the moment (1 dec 2003) I've been on that site and downloaded a tar.gz file, probably the makefile is in it!
If you are interested, send me a mail
g.briotti(AT)mclink.it
Moreover I'm interested in collect all the experiences related on install of such NIC on several different distro... (maybe I'll write a HowTo :-)))
If you, and others, are interested, send me the information related on such stuff (distro and kernelversion, mobo, driver that works and that didnt work, makefile and watheverelse)
I am very new at Linux Redhat. I am using 9.0 and have had it networked nicely on two computers with a Samba server.
Now I have built a new computer with an Asus P4R800 motherboard.
I tried installing the lan using the driver from the cd.
I followed the instructions exactly copying the 3c2000.tar.gz file to the hard drive and then un-tarred and un-gziped it and did the 'make load'.
It seemed to unravel a long list of files and near the bottom of the list I read about an error.
It suggested an invalid IO or IRQ parameters and
Error 1
I tried untar.gz ing in several different places:
/lib/modules/2.4.24-snp/kernel/drivers/net
/lib/modules/2.4.24/kernel/drivers/net
/usr/src/linux2.4.24smp
/root
I left an alias eth0 3c2000 in /etc/modules.conf
I tried insmod 3c2000.o
I tried probmod
Every time I got the error 'no device' or error 1 and invalid IO or IRQ parameters
I tried installing a separate PCI lan card using the Linux driver for that card, a 3c990 and got the same errors.
Here's the error:Component: redhat-config-network

I have a similar problem with my asus P4C800 Motherboard. Although I'm able to connect to the internet. I'm still unable to connect to google.com. Also unable to bring up the interface to my router, and a few other connectivity issues. I'm running redhat 9.0. Also, the sound driver for this motherboard won't work either. I'm going to install mandrake on this motherboard and see if I have the same problem.
I'm not sure I have the /etc/x11/xf86Config setup correctly. I have a ati radeon 9100 . I was able to use startx and got the gui started.
I still have the same errors with the lan setup on Fedora.
It doesn't recognize the device eth0.
How is it that you set up the xf86config??
you can check if you have an XF86Config file by doing " find /etc -type -name 'XF86Config' " leaving out the quot marks, if you do then you can view the file with emacs /etc/X11/XF86Config or use vi in place of the word emacs, if you know vi, which is not as user friendly as emacs. In your XF86Config file you should have a couple of sections for your monitor and graphics card setup. They are Section "Monitor" Section "Device" and Section "Screen".
Yes I did find the XF86Config and have now got the monitor and graphics set-up. Thanks, but the network device 3c2000 is not working.
Fedora doen't have the correct driver. I have tried to install the driver from the manufacturer's disk. I copied it according to the read-me file:
1) Make sure that the kernel source is installed in /usr/src/linux
or /usr/src/linux-2.4.
2) Copy the file /Linux/3c2000.tar.gz from the 3Com driver CD to
your hard drive.
3) Change to the directory containing 3c2000.tar.gz
4) Type 'tar zxvf 3c2000.tar.gz'
5) Type 'cd 3c2000'
I did this and then used 'Make load'
It unzipped and spit out a bunch of files
I tried; 'insmod', 'modprobe','depmod' on the 3c2000 and got error messages. I tried manually copying the 3c2000.o file into the /lib/modules/linux2.4**/kernel/drivers/net area and yet the same errors.
I'm not certain I am loading the driver correctly or if there is something else I forgot to do or if the driver is wrong for Fedora??? Any ideas??
