2cpu/8g Ram


my old machine is 1 cpu 4G ram.I add 1cpu and 4 G ram.the total is 2cpu and 8G ram.the bios can see I have 2cpu and 8g ram
however, I run the top, it see the 1cpu and 4g ram only.

why?

You have to get the SMP kernel version. Did you install the Symetric Multiprocessor (SMP) version of linux?

What's your Distro? Redhat? It is on the CD's. Otherwise, go to kernel.org and down load and build it.

Consider upgrading to either 7.3 or 9 (skip RH8). The upgrade, or install if you prefer that, should find your dual processor and extra RAM with no problems.

redhat7.2 doesn't support 2 cpu?

I do not know. Maybe with the latest kernel.
