Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

2048x1536 & Xorg

Hi all,

Just a question about using high resolutions in X.

My machine is an AMD Barton 3200XP (2.2Ghz) with 2GB PC3200 Ram, a GeForce FX5200 AGP with 128MB video Ram on a Viewsonic G220f 21 inch monitor.

My question:

I have been working in 1600x1200 resolution for quite some time; according to the manufacturer, that is native.
Now I want to use a resolution of 2048x1536; but the screen is off-center to the left at that resolution.
Is there a way to move the screen to the middle of the display and also strech it to use the whole display?

Thanks

That is a TFT/LCD monitor.
That is native means that is native

Sorry, I assume it was a flatpanel---see my post below...

No, actually, you don't really want to do that.... Seriously, I don't think the picture will be any better, and the monitor may not support it. (Check the specs)

Flat panels like to be run at their native resolution.

It's a CRT. Either Google before suggesting or don't post.

Once again, Google a monitor model you don't know before suggesting. It's a CRT.

According to http://ap.viewsonic.com/my/products/...pecs.php?id=85 the maximum possible resolution for your monitor is 1920x1440. 2048x1536 won't work.

Add 1920x1440 to your xorg.conf, or post contents of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file if you require assistance.

[EDIT]
According to http://reviews.cnet.com/crt-monitors...tag=mncol;psum 2048x1536 is possible. Add it to your xorg.conf. You may also need to change your vertical and horizontal refresh rate.

Ooooops!! Fell into a trap: OP makes a ref. to "native resolution", and then 1st reply says its a flatpanel. (CRTs have no "native" resolution)

OK--back to the part about checking the specs--I found 2048x1536 @68Hz (no mention of lower modes or "native resolution")

My hunch is that you are trying to run it too fast....
