2 Wire Orinoco Classic Gold (no monitor mode!)

Well this is starting to drive me bonkers, I bought a Orinoco Class Gold PCMCIA card having heard that it had great linux support. I'm using the newest release of simply mepis (3.4-3) with a 2.6.15 kernel. It does load the orinoco_cs module (and hermes) for my card but I can't seem to put it in monitor mode for airsnort or kismet. When I do a iwconfig eth0 mode Monitor it says operation not supported! I tried to use the kernel patch but the trial run failed on that as well. Any help or point in the right direct would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
