Question 2 CPUs machine but /proc/cpuinfo only record 1

This is my first time installing Red Hat Linux release 9 (Shrike) on 2 CPUs machine, hoping to speed up some program that I wrote, everything goes well until I check on /proc/cpuinfo

# cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
the 2nd CPU is not there, when I run "top", no indication there is 2 CPUs

the weird thing, when I use survey - Compaq Survey Utillity for Linux, here is the output
System Information
----------------------------------------
System Name: ProLiant DL580 G2
System ID: 0E110736
Serial Number: H40PMFT33M

----------------------------------------
Processor Information
----------------------------------------
Processor ID[Proc 1]:
Intel (R) Xeon(tm) 3.00Ghz
L1 Cache Installed - Write Back - 8 KB
L2 Cache Installed - Varies with Memory Address - 512 KB
L3 Cache Installed - Write Back - 4 MB
Processor ID[Proc 2]:
Intel (R) Xeon(tm) 3.00Ghz
L1 Cache Installed - Write Back - 8 KB
L2 Cache Installed - Varies with Memory Address - 512 KB
L3 Cache Installed - Write Back - 4 MB
Processor ID[Proc 3]:
Empty
Processor ID[Proc 4]:
Empty

There are 2 CPUs, what is wrong, Is
1) I did something wrong during installation
2) Red Hat Linux hides it since there are similar processor - not likely

What should I do, I have been installing and deinstalling several times already always back to square 1.

HELPPP, I am running in circle like homer simpson. -->

Are you using a SMP kernel? (obviously not)

Why such an old distro?

so since u know now that your using smp, this thread is solved?

i have an intel with HT technology (makes the computer think i have 2 cpus.. in WINDOWS).
it shows up as 2 cpus in windows, but in linux, i do use smp, but no where does it show i have 2 cpus. same would probably be the case here... is it physically 2 CPU chips?

also, i would like to know how you know all those commands and config files, but not what a 'distro' is? well its short for distribution (kinda).. hopefully that word should ring a bell then.
