2.6.5 kernel + emu10k1 on Slackware 9.1
No matter what I have done, i just cannot get my sound blaster live 5.1 to work under slackware 9.1 with 2.6.5 kernel.
I have tried compilling the support for the card as a module, coded or not even supporting it. when i have them installed (the modules) it says that the module snd_mixer_oss is already loaded into the kernel, but then when it's not loaded it says it's missing?? could it be possible that the kernel is told to load twice? if so where would i find this? Thanks for any help |
have you tried the emu10k1 driver from sourceforge??
take that ALSA crap out and use aumix!! the emu-tools installs a script to edit to enable digital output, surround, etc. |
your volumes levels r alrigth ????

i have a similar problem and i got the driver from sourceforge, installed it and removed ALSA, but i can't seem to get them working. I made the 2 files into packages and then installed them. How do I get the driver working now? emu-config didn't work for me as either user or root. any suggestions?

Can I ask what desktop you are using? if its KDE, disable arTS, its a pain
Also, please check the mixer settings, not muted, volume set to zero etc? I have the same soundcard and no problems with 2.6.5. I am running it under OSS emulation, under the ALSA heading in config I have selected as built in ALSA Sequencer support OSS Mixer API OSS PCM (Digital Audio) API OSS Sequencer API RTC Timer Support It did give me a bit of trouble when I recently got the card, but works like a dream now. Reading the ALSA homepage gives a lot of help. |
im haveing problems with alsa w/ a sound blaster live as well. It has worked perfect with 2.6.0 - 2.6.4, I am now attempting to use 2.6.5 and it is not working at all... I generaly compile the kernel and leave out alsa altogether and just compile snd and soundcore as modules. Then download alsa (have been using 1.0.3 but I am using 1.0.4 right now) compile and install... load the module run alsamixer and bam.. it works..
now i get errors when running alsamixer it complains that no card is found?? what kind of problems are everyone else expeirencing? |
I did get this working the other day, but I re-installed slack. All I remember is that I downloaded two things and installed them, then it worked :\
Before, alsaconf could not find the card, but once I had installed these two it detected straightaway and worked perfectly...any ideas as to what these were? cheers |
They were alsa-lib and alsa-utils... i'm still googling but no success so far :(
|
Yep, it works now. The only problem is... this doesn't feel right, like im installing alsa and not using the one built into the kernel, is this right?
|
I fixed my problem... for some reason the card was not being seen on the pci slot that it was in.. I confirmed this with lspci. Moved the card up one pci slot... and then everything worked... and lspci then showed the card. go figure!
