2.4.20-18.9 kernel and 4363 nVidia driver

I just upgraded my kernel from 2.4.20-13.9, so I now need to recompile my video driver for use with the new kernel. I've already downloaded and installed the kernel source.

Every time I try to install the driver, I receive an error saying that the driver cannot be compiled. As long as I pointed the installer to the location of the kernel source files (/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-13.9/include) with the --kernel-include-path switch, it worked file on the 2.4.20-13.9 kernel. I'm not having any luck with the -18.9 kernel.

Am I doing something wrong or is everyone having this problem? Do I have to wait for nVidia to release a new driver?

make sure you are booting to the kernel that you want to compile for, that should do the trick. the driver will probably need to be compiled during the installation, but the driver install will take care of that for you. good luck..

be sure and add the bus ID to x86config....

I have tried booting both the 2.4.20-13.9 kernel and the 2.4.20-18.9 kernel. The installer has another command switch, --kernel-name, that will allow you to compile the driver for a non-running kernel. That didn't work, nor did compiling it while the 2.4.20-18.9 kernel was booted.

The driver compiles fine on 2.4.20-13.9. I know that I have to have the kernel sources installed, and the driver must be installed without an X server running (I kill it with an /sbin/telinit 3).

This isn't a problem with getting the driver to work properly with X (what I mean is it's not a problem with a faulty XF86Config file) - I can't even get the driver to compile.

i'm running rh9 with all the updates from the redhat network. booted from a floppy i created after installing and running 2.4.20-18.9smp. at the boot prompt i typed "linux 3" and the system booted to the shell.
i then installed the drivers, and as you say they had to compile for the new kernel. setup the xf86config file and the new drivers are running
i haven't installed much software yet, so that may be the difference....
