1920x1200 resolution on CentOS 4.3???
Did a search but nothing really good came up (in the HCL and the forum). I'm installing CentOS 4.3 onto a machine and the monitor I'm using is a dell 2405 (1920x1200 native). I'd like to use that resolution, and I need to get a PCI-express video card that will support it. I was thinking the nvidia 6600 series, but there seems to be conflicting stories on whether or not it supports that resolution.
Anybody got any experience with this?
Thanks

Hi,
I'm running 1920x1200, card that's doing it: A rather 'old' GeForce4 Ti 4200 AGP 8x (V9280 series). I don't have any problems (watching Movies/TV, editing pics etc).
Guess that by now most modern cards provide this resolution.
Are you sure your current card cannot handle this resolution? Is the appropriate 1920x1200 modeline present in your X config file (XF86Config / xorg.conf)?
Hope this helps.

I'm suprised a Geforce 4 can do it, according to nvidia only high end 6 series and up can.
My current card can handle it fine (7800GTX), but thats going into a gaming machine. So I'm basically looking for a card strictly for this linux machine that can handle that resolution.

Hi,
Don't know where you got that info, but if you look at specific cards most of them have a max resolution of 2048 X 1536.
Take this one
GeForce FX 5200, one of the low priced asus geforce cards ('only' $40).
The 1920x1200 resolution isn't mentioned on the site, but it is in the user's manual that came with the card. Including a list of valid horizontal and vertical frequencies.
Hope this helps.

The page I saw on nvidia.com had me confused. I guess all 6 series+ can do it.
I was mainly looking for verification that someone else has it and it works good. I'm still too noobish to linux to trust it enough to go spend money on something that may or may not work.
