1 router through another router

so i have a wireless router that doesnt work very well, and a non wireless that works great. my roommates want wireless and cant see the difference in quality. is there a way to have my wired router connected to the cable modem, then the wireless one connected to the wired one?

i have a linksys and a d-link(wireless)

is this possible?

if these are generic adsl home routers then you can probably just use the wireless one as a switch. you do not need to use the routing functionality of the devices if you don't wish to.

unlike some linksys routers the D-link wireless don't have an option to be just an Access Point. However, if you run a cable from the wired routers LAN ports to one of thewireless routers wired LAN ports, and make sure you disable DHCP on the wireless router you should have a workable setup. another alternative is you could just run a cable from a LAN port on the wired router to the WAN port on the dlink, and then leave them both as is. THE DHCP server on the wired router will give an internal IP to the WAN Side of the wireless router and then they will get their wireless addresses assigned by the wireless routers DHCP, if you do that though you will need to make sure that the wired and wireless routers do not serve up the same IP addresses. I.E. the wired router could serve up 192.168.0.x and the wireless could serve up 192.168.1.x addresses. If you do use the same DHCP Scope on both routers it will cause lots of problems.

I have a Dlink VPN router and a Dlink wireless router like the second option. I do it to have sort of a DMZ zone, I allow public access through the VPN router but my completely off limits PCs both wired and wireless are connectid via the second wireless router.

Alex's advice is right on. Pay especial attention to the part about different IP ranges.

I have an old Linksys wireless in series w/ my SmoothWall Express box. Works fine, gives guests access to the 'Net.
