1 Gb memory stick on VIA KT333 chipset motherboard

Hi.
I just bought a 1 Gb memory stick and it wouldn't work in Linux.
It's supposed to be compatible with this particular motherboard (VIA KT333)
it's a DDR333 memory and it just wouldn't work.
I have a system with three hard drives in it, plus a Trios switch.
I've got Linux Mandrake 9.0 on one, Win98 on the other and WinXP on the third one.
Funny thing is - Win98 wouldn;t work wither but XP fired-up and IT WAS SCREAMING FAST!
So - it's not the hardware. I've tried fiddling with Bios - nope, wouldn;t work.
When I try Linux, the keyboard (??) starts flashing CapsLock and Scroll Lock and it all stops there.

I use Mandrake as my primary system, and I was wondering if someone has had the same problem with memory.

any advice would be appreciated

Al

Add mem=768 to the append line for your boot loader. Next compile the kernel and make sure you select himem support. For Win98, take out the 1 GB memory stick and insert 128,256, or 512 MB memory stick if you have one. Then in win98, click start, run. Type in msconfig. Click on the general tab and click the advance button. Look for limited memory and check it. Specify 768. To use the rest for RAMDRIVE. Do a search for xmsdisk to use more than 32 megabytes for ramdrive. Though win98 performance gets worst after 128 MB of memory, so xmsdisk will come in real handy for win98.
