Hello
I use an Atom-based, low-power computer from MSI as a home NAS.
I'd like to use WoL to wake it up from suspend mode, let a remote backup application do its thing, and put the NAS back to suspend mode.
The BIOS only contains the following info in the Chipset > South Bridge Configuation section: "Onboard LAN Controller", which is currently enabled.
dmidecode says the BIOS manufacturer is "MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD" (it could actually be just OEM), and reports the following relevant infos:
Code:
Wake-up Type: Power Switch
Handle 0x0018, DMI type 10, 6 bytes
On Board Device Information
Type: Ethernet
Status: Enabled
Description: Onboard GBE
Handle 0x0017, DMI type 9, 13 bytes
System Slot Information
Designation: PCIE1
Type: x1 PCI Express
Current Usage: Available
Length: Other
ID: 1
Characteristics:
3.3 V is provided
PME signal is supported
SMBus signal is supported
Does it mean the on-board Ethernet port supports WoL, or should I get a PCI Express Ethernet board that does?
And am I correct in understanding that I won't actually need to install anything in Linux, and just let the remote software send magic packets to the NAS' MAC address on UDP9 to inrteract with the NAS?
Thank you.
