[newbie] Gentoo 1.4 and P4C800 - network driver compile problem

Hello,

I have a p4c800 board with an onboard ethernet card.
I have downloaded the driver from the asus site, booted gentoo
and typed 'make' in the ethernet driver directory.

My system complained on gcc:
Could not run/allocated "gcc"

I have located gcc (somewhere under /mnt/clocal/usr/bin if I remember correctly), but nomatter what I try, the system always comes with the same error.

Anyone any idees, clues?

Thanks,
Barry

There is no configuration script provided. Just the makefile, some .c files and some header files.... :-(
