HELP..!

Hi Guy's.

Firstly I'd like to say i'm really great to find this forum, and glad to see member's
helping each other, so I thought I hope I may get help too.

Here Goes My Problem:-

I have installed FEDORA Core 3, DVD Edition, Installed Everything, Took 26min.
Once everything is installed the system does'nt run in GUI mode it's simple TEXT MODE. Now KUDZU Detects the Graphics Card As ATI Radeon X800, I have X800 XT
when I configure it says FAILED and continues for me to log in (Text Mode).!

I went on to ati.com and downloaded the drivers for the radeon family, there was 3
drivers to download and a X something driver. However not nowing which to download I downloaded all 4, Now there on a CD.

Once I log in to root in TEXT MODE, how can I install the driver's.

Please Give Exact Instuction & Command's.

Bearing In Mind I Just Installed FEDORA About 1 Hr Ago Before Posting My Thread.!

HELP HELP HELP..

Sorry, reading your question again and looking at the ATI page it's easy... (in theory),

su -
Password: >Type in your Root password<
# rpm --install dirty-great-file-name-from-ati.rpm

That should at least get you one step closer.

Other places to look are
# less /var/log/XFree86.0.log

Thank You For Replying.

Could you please tell me how to access the cdrom from textmode.
and also out of the 4 drivers on ati.com website which driver do I download.

I have'nt upgraded the kernel it the standard that comes with FEDORA CORE 3.

Also where you have wrote :- dirty-great-file-name-from-ati.
Do I replace the words dirty great file name from ati. corresponding to the file name right.!

I have a 9800 pro and I had some trouble with it when I used Fedora. To make it work, you first have to install the RPM like it says. Then you have to run the program fglrxconfg as root. Answer its questions, and it will generate a working config file for you. After that, the GUI should work ok. Post if you run into trouble.

Good luck

Go to..
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...uestionID=3380

Down load the appropriate driver to your card, I suspect...
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...uestionID=1176

Possibly
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/fg....10-1.i386.rpm

But use
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/check.sh
To find out.

Then su

The rpm --install http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/fg....10-1.i386.rpm

Yes, rpm can pull things straight off the 'net is it needs to.

To access the cdrom

Probably
cd /mnt/cdrom
or
cd /cdrom

Depending on where it is mounted,
df
will tell you that.

If is is not mounted
su
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
exit

The cdrom thing is easy. Just make a symlink named /dev/cdrom to the drive that you want. Login as root and run this command, assuming your drive is /dev/hdb:

Code:
ln -sf /dev/hdb /dev/cdrom
BTW, you don't have to use just one; you can use all of them at once if you like (I have a DVD-ROM and a DVD burner, and I can use both at once.) Set up the file /etc/fstab like so:

Code:
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom auto ro,exec,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom1 auto ro,exec,user,noauto 0 0
cdrom1 is a symlink to my burner. Make symlinks like this for all of your drives, and make entries for them like above

There's really nothing to it:

1. Download it to a folder (It doesn't matter where, just so you know where it is)
2. Open a terminal, cd to that folder
3. Type sh check.sh

And that it

If you want to copy check.sh somewhere else, do these things:

1. Go to a terminal, cd to where you downloaded your file
2. type cp check.sh [folder where you want it to go]

Wow, it sounds like you're having a hell of a time... To get something to download using text mode, you can use a program called wget. Here's what you do:

Code:
cd [folder you want to save file]
wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/check.sh
sh check.sh
