Question 'Additional Drivers' in Distros

Hi.

I know that Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Linux Mint, Pinguy, etc. has an 'Additional Drivers' window but what about other Distros such as CrunchBang, PCLOS, etc. and others? Can I get drivers in them as easily?

Each distro usually lets you install non-free drivers, the methods might, however, differ across the distros.

Having said that, there are some universal ways of installing certain drivers in linux. For example, for nvidia binary driver:
1. Go to their website and download the appropriate driver.
2. Make the package executable
3. exit X
4. execute the installation file.

I know it's not a point-and-click method, but I can't see anything difficult in it and it should work in all distros.

IMO, it's good to learn distro-agnostic ways of accomplishing things in linux. If you only learn things the fedora way or the ubuntu way, you might be stuck when someone puts you in front of a distro you've never used.

Yes. You have a good point about getting familiar with other distros.

What do you mean by "exit X" (x server?) and "execute the installation file"? Do you refer to using a program such as ndiswrapper?

That is because all of them are based on Ubuntu's core. Hence, what Ubuntu has, all they have.

Yes, I meant the X server. By the installation script I meant the file you download from the nvidia website. You can run it by:
Code:
./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-275.09.07.run
Note that it's for the 64 bit architecture.
