Zip drive speed mystery

I'm trying to use an Ide Zip drive in my mp3 car player,
that way trying to configure ZIp drive in it.

At home, kern 2.4.22 (vanilla) on gentoo hdparm -t gives :
1000 K/s

With motherboard from car, kern 2.4.21 (vanilla) on gentoo :
500 K/s

Both of my zips are Ide drives, identical
Using ide-floppy option in kernel

I can't understand !!!
