Zero the superblock

I received a "letter" at boot from root@localhost.

It said that I MUST (emphasis theirs)

zero the superblock before activating the autostart feature.

and

Do not start RAID devices automatically.

mdadm--zero-superblock /dev/xxx

and

dpkg-reconfigure mdadm

Please tell me if /dev/xxx would be /dev/hda OR /dev/hd0

also, tell me what has happened to my newly minted Ubuntu/Breezy Badger after 10 hours of downloads, if you know.

Do I need to be online when I run dpkg? Would it be better if I were?

I didn't see any info that I had started the RAID automatically. Heck! I've only got a used 40gig hdd, anyway!

I checked the other thread at this forum on Superblock but while similar, there aren't comparable. Hence this post.

Don't you think it's a spam, or a joke? Check the body of the mail to find some IP.

Umm, no---he's getting system mail from his own system.

OP;
I infer you have a RAID setup. Was it working once? Do you know if you changed something before this behavior started?

Response 1. Don't you think it's a spam, or a joke?

It's from the system!

Response 2. I infer you have a RAID setup

This is an install that started with Hoary Hedgehog ver. 5.04. on CD. I then proceeded to update/upgrade via Synpatic/Update Managers, online. If RAID is setup, I didn't ask for and don't want it.

Response 3. OMG, who is your root?!?!?!?! This is kinda awkward, why zero the superblock before autostart?

I am the only user of this computer. I SUDO when / work must be done. Otherwise I don't mess with this system. By / work, I mean: anything that requires SUDO. I "installed" a script from Ubuntu.com about changing the wallpaper. That ALL. I have used Automatix and Synaptic/Update managers. THAT'S IT. There ain't no more. I've been using Ubuntu since early March 2006 and don't know my / from a hole in the ground.
