Xvid movies with VobSub subtitles

I have a couple of Xvid encoded movies that have VobSub subtitles in them (don't ask me how). Is there a way to play and/or extract these subtitles. mplayer claims that it can play VobSub subtitles but I think it needs the subs in a seperate file.

Any help would be appreciated.

So, no way to do this on Linux huh. Guess I'll reboot too Winblows and download a crappy (but apparently more capable then anything Linux has to offer) media player. This is making me very cranky.
