I am running Ubuntu Server 12.10 and installed ubuntu-desktop, however it is not supported yet so I removed ubuntu-desktop and installed kubuntu. The problem I am having is when I remote into the machine using xRDP it still wants to start ubuntu-desktop and I cannot get into the server using xRDP. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to have it load the kubuntu desktop in xRDP.
ubuntu-desktop is a meta-package. Removing it will not remove the actual packages this meta-package pulled in. You have to uninstall those, too. Usually this can be done with

sudo apt-get autoremove
Be careful and double check which packages are uninstalled by this action.
