XP Linux
Hi, has anyone any reviews on the XP Linux I have recently come across. I am a newbie with a serious ambition to give up on closed source. Having decided to bite the bullet and go cold turkey and migrate to Mandriva till I wean myself off windows products.
Then I come across XP Linux which is promoting itself as a Linux OS which can work with a many windows products. My goal is to become a linux pro but starting from zero. I need to use my Sony Ericsson phone via USB and my usb voice recorder which currenlty only uses a driver to syncronize with my pc. |
Linux XP uses Wine for windows programs just like any other distribution, plus it forces you to pay for full access.
If your goal is to become a Linux Pro, you might as well dive headfirst: Slackware, Arch, or Gentoo. I think Gentoo has the steepest learning curve (especially the installation), then Slackware, then Arch. All will teach you Linux. |
The Linux XP advertising is just advertising.
It does not offer compatibility that is offered nowhere else. You will want to ask here or use Google for specific devices to see if they are compatible. Check the Linux is Not Windows article and dual boot to access what is possible with fewer frustrations. |
linux xp just looks like Windows xp so you have a familiar interface. the internal workings bear no resemblance to windows
