Question Xorg taking a long time to start

I'm running Gentoo and for some reason X is taking about 5 min to start up. The system completes the boot process and enters run level 5... but then stalls for about 5 min and then X starts up.

Also KDM stalls if it is called but xdm does not. KDM will start from the command line though.

Hey,

Not sure this will be of any help but thought it was worth a mention. I had a VERY slow boot problem on a previous install and terrible trouble tracking it down. I ended up stumbling across bootchart, "... a tool for performance analysis and visualization of the GNU/Linux boot process.. " which i made great use of.

http://www.bootchart.org/

It allows you to see (as in a picture) how long each of the different parts of the boot process take. Sometimes you can find odd things running/starting that will help drop your boot time.

Just a thought, hope it helps.
