I have just updated my monitor to LG Flatron Wide.
Optimal resolution is 1680x1050.
The VGA is radeon x1550
I have a new installation of Fedora Core 6. - 2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 on AMD x86_64 machine.
I download the display driver from the AMD site and was then able to use the monitor.
Driver version is 8.44.3
However the highest setting on the resolution is 1280x1024
How can I configure to achieve optimal resolution?
I did try the following and rebooting but it didnt appear to make a difference

thank you.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that the .00 you have on the modeline can screw it up so try the edited version I have done above. Besides that you should not really be have to be adding that to your file anyways it should be getting auto-detected. Can you post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file so we can see how everything is getting detected? You will need to break it into two post as it is rather big. Also they say it not needed anymore but I always put the complete specifications for my monitor in my xorg.conf just so X has no doubts as to what my monitor can do, you can usually find these numbers in your monitor manual an example form my file below to give you an idea of how it is formatted.
hi, thanks for reply.
I tried the modified file but with it didnt appear to make any difference.
here is the xorg log.

I just seen something similar on the Debian user mailing list where it looks like it may be a bug in the driver that causes it to not use the 1680x1050 and to top it off it says it may ignore a custom modeline as well, the solution there was to download then install the previous version of the driver.
