XMMS and other apps work just fine, as a matter of fact, things are running perfect!!!! I can even play videos with xine but there is no sound and i checked xine's preferences and it said the audio driver in use is null.. HOW?
sound works everywhere else. Any ideas?

Can you change the audio output? I don't use xine, but I'd think that there'd be an option to do this. Did you compile this from source, or install from RPM, and on what distro?
Oh, and if from source, did you see anything odd in the configure?
Cool

Guess it needed the alsa driver... Went through Mandy's 'Install Software' manager and installed every 'xine' related package... messy and lazy but it works for now.

Good deal, at least you've got sound! Mandy sure is nice though isn't it? I love some of it's features and tools.

XINE - no audio
Hi everybody,
xine doesn't play audio after I reinstalled Mandrake 9.0
Unfortunately my case seems to be a bit more complicated.
Command: xine -A oss
starts xine but crashes with a message: oss failed
-A alsa and -A arts produce the same result
Command: xine -A null
starts xine without audio output.
Prior to reinstallation of Mandrake xine worked fine with oss.
Here is the shell output:

Try unloading and then reloading your oss driver/module and see if that works, and make sure you have no other sound modules loaded that could be causing your audio device to be busy or resource busy.
Also check your permissions on /dev/dsp and make sure they are read and execute for everyone: chmod 666 /dev/dsp*
And may I also add, try acid's suggestion, use mplayer. I have both xine and mplayer, mplayer is much better.

chmod 666 is the first idea I had but it didn't help.
What helped:
Open Configure -> KDE -> Sound-> Sound I/O
uncheck -> Start Sound Services on startup
When the Sound Server doesn't start, xine works.
The problem is solved.
By the way, what's better in mplayer?
