XF86 4.2.0 & Trident 3dimage975

Slackware 8.1, XF86 4.2.0

The machine is a Packard Bell 233 with what the bios calls a DM975 video adapter.

xfree86setup says it's a Trident 3DImage975.

When using KDE (haven't tried Gnome yet), the colors are completely wrong, to the point the screen is almost unreadable. And this occurs whether the driver is '3dimage975' or 'vesa'.

The machine was previously running Peanut Linux 8.4, which used XF86 3.3.6. xfree86.org says this adapter is supported in 4.2.0.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've searched groups archive and there are questions, but no answers. It may mean it doesn't work.
You can try with generic vga drivers (even not vesa). You won't get high resolution, but maybe colors will be OK...

Thanks for your help, Mara.

I downloaded the binaries from xfree86.org, and now the vesa driver works.
